The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch

Last night we played The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch for the first time.
A Kickstarter game by CMON in a beautifull steampunk world.

It’s a many versus 1 game. Semi-cooperative better explained as a game with a dungeon crawler with “overlord”. In Rise of Moloch the overlord is called the NEMESIS.
As the NEMESIS you control the minions and agents in game.

The game has a bunch of scenario’s but ofcourse we started with the first one which it was about saving a character.  As the NEMESIS you try to kill three opposite players or kill the scenario’s character.

Other players play the so called Gentlemen, those gentlemen team up to get the mission done. They have gotten some help from Bobbies, allied units that can be controlled and jump in front of attacks against the specific character that needs to be saved.

While trying to figuring out the rules for our first play we had some trouble with the rulebook. Unfortunately there was no complete overview for what the NEMISIS player could do. You have the read through the whole book to get all the pieces of rules to get the overview.

But once you got everything figured out the gameplay is rather smooth and it has some refreshing mechanics.  Things like a both the Gentlemen and the NEMESIS have to play face down cards on the track to determine what is going to happen.

We played this game with 5 people. 3 of them are really into dungeon crawlers, the other 2 players thought the game was ok at best. But the 3 dungeon crawlers really liked the game.

This game needs a replay for sure!

Sword & Sorcery

My dad received his Kickstarter edition of Sword & Sorcery a few months ago.
He decided to Kickstarter this game because of the predecessor called Galaxy Defenders.
Galaxy Defenders is a game we played a lot and enjoyed 🙂

So we started it playing it in our gaming group.
The game has a large story book and gives you the opportunity to grow with your chosen character.

The gaming mechanics of Sword & Sorcery are much alike Galaxy Defender but a bit more streamlined.
It’s less tactical than Galaxy Defender but the new mechanics make the gameplay a lot smoother.

Me and my dad are liking the game a lot, but we are really fond of cooperative dungeon crawlers.

As a dungeon crawler this is one of the best.
